Drinks for card night

At a card table you want a drink you can hold in one hand and forget about. Nothing fussy, no sticky fingers on the cards, and no getting up every ten minutes. So this list is mostly highballs, which take a minute, and jugs you can make once and leave on the side table. Keep a tray with the bottles, soda and ice within reach, and people can help themselves. We have kept some no-alcohol glasses too, for the player who is driving home or simply wants a clear head.

You chose mocktails only, so the drinks with alcohol are hidden here. See the mocktail guides

Questions

How much do I need for eight players?

Two jugs per round, as each serves 4. Two Patiala Cola Punch jugs take 480 ml of whisky and 1.6 litres of cola. For highballs, a 750 ml bottle gives 12 drinks at 60 ml, and you need about 150 ml of soda or cola for each.

What should I make ahead?

Iced Masala Chai needs cooling and 30 minutes in the fridge, so make it first. For the fizzy jugs, measure out everything except the ice and the soda, cola or beer, and add those when you pour.

What about someone who isn't drinking?

Give them a proper glass and a proper drink. Masala Cola, Jaljeera Fizz and Nimbu Pani have no alcohol and take about a minute, and a jug of Masala Chaas goes well with a plate of namkeen. If anyone has been drinking, arrange a cab home.
