Winter warmers (toddies, kesar doodh, chai cocktails)

When the fog rolls in, a cold glass is the last thing you want. Everything here is served warm, in a mug or a heatproof glass. There are toddies with whisky, rum, gin and thandai, all built on hot water or milk. There are chai cocktails with rum, scotch and port, and two pots of mulled wine for a crowd. Three have no alcohol: Malai Kesar Doodh, Kesar Badam Chai and a Faux Hot Toddy. Warm the mug with hot water first if you can, and serve it straight away.

You chose mocktails only, so the drinks with alcohol are hidden here. See the mocktail guides

Questions

Is there a kesar doodh with alcohol?

Malai Kesar Doodh here has none: 200 ml milk and 50 ml cream simmered with 5 saffron strands. If you want one with a spirit, search for kesar doodh on the home page. The library has a whisky version and a brandy version.

Can I boil the drink or reheat it?

Do not boil wine or spirits. The Masala Mulled Wine warms on low heat for 10 minutes and must not boil, and the Hot Thandai Toddy stops when the milk steams. To reheat, warm it gently and stop as soon as it steams.

How much mulled wine do I need for eight?

Two pots. For Masala Mulled Wine that is 2 bottles (750 ml) of red wine, 2 oranges, 4 cinnamon sticks, 12 cloves, 4 star anise and 6 tbsp of jaggery. Each pot fills 4 mugs. Cook in two pans so that it warms evenly.
