Sazerac

Short glassAbout 3 minutesServes 1

You need

  • whisky
  • sugar
  • star anise

Nice to have

  • Angostura bitters
  • lemon

How to make it

  1. Crush 1 star anise and rub it around the inside of a chilled short glass, then tip it out. This adds an aniseed scent.
  2. In a mixing glass, stir 1 tsp sugar with 3 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 tsp water until dissolved.
  3. Add 60 ml whisky and ice. Stir for 30 seconds.
  4. Strain into the prepared glass with no ice. Twist a lemon peel over the top.
  5. Serve right away without a straw or ice, sipping slowly, with a few salted nuts on the side.
